Fresh Wood Privacy Fence Install With Double Gate

A lot of homeowners put off getting a fence because they're not sure where to start. Do you go with wood, vinyl, chain link? How tall? Do you need a gate - or two? It's easy to overthink it. But once it's done, the difference is immediate. The yard goes from open and exposed to a space that actually feels like yours.

Here's what we were working with on this one - a backyard that needed full perimeter coverage and a couple of access points. We built it out using pressure treated wood boards with a clean flat-top cap rail running the full length. The boards are tight and flush, posts are solid, and the whole run lines up straight even where the yard grade changes slightly along the back property line.

The gates were a key part of this job. We installed both a single walk-through gate near the house and a double gate on the opposite side - both with black hardware and a latch that actually closes the way it should. Gates are where a lot of fence installs cut corners. Get the framing wrong and they sag within a year. We brace them properly so they hold their shape long-term.

For anyone with dogs, a fence like this isn't just nice to have. It's the difference between letting your dog out freely and standing outside every single time. Full privacy height means they're not barking at every person walking by either. That alone is worth it for a lot of families.
